Have you missed the beach, Rhode Island? We thought so. Our beautiful beaches are starting to open, and it won't be long before we can enjoy them to the fullest once again. And while we always recommend taking recommended precautions and keeping your distance from others, we also know that a good beach day can be healing.
Our top state beaches will likely attract the masses this summer. If you'd like to stay more under-the-radar, check out these slightly off-the-beaten-path gems.
1. Mackerel Cove Town Beach, Jamestown
Mackerel Cove Town Beach is also known as Jamestown's hidden gem. And since it's technically located on an island, Jamestown is surrounded by water on all sides. That makes social distancing infinitely easier.
2. Goosewing Beach Preserve, Little Compton
Goosewing is an intricate system of pristine coastal ponds, beaches, and dunes. This small rocky beach is beautiful, and it often remains uncrowded during the week.
3. Blue Shutters Town Beach, Charlestown
This little beach doesn't have any amenities, like a lifeguard, but you won't mind. You'll find Blue Shutters Town Beach in the Ninigret Conservation Area in Charlestown off of East Beach Road.
4. Gooseberry Beach, Newport
Gooseberry Beach sits nestled in between Bailey's Beach and Hazard's Beach in a little cove. Technically this is a private beach, but there is some public access allowed.
5. Third Beach, Middletown
Small, quiet, and often uncrowded, Third Beach is east-facing and overlooks Third Beach Harbor. The picnic tables and grills are convenient, but what's really fantastic is the Del’s Lemonade cart that camps out in the area all summer.
6. Napatree Point Conservation Area, Westerly
If you've never been to Napatree Point, add it to your bucket list at once. This sprawling, sandy beach is absolutely stunning.
7. Fogland Beach, Tiverton
Located on the little peninsula between Aquidneck Island and Tiverton, Fogland Beach (also known as Tiverton Town Beach) is a true hidden gem. But for those who are in the know, it's a great place to go windsurfing.
How many of these hidden beaches have you visited before? Will you be adding any of them to your summer bucket list?
