Tired of the same ol’ routine? Not a problem: There are plenty of crazy things to do in San Francisco to snatch you right out of your comfort zone, and you don’t even have to go nude to do so (well, you can, just as long as you have a permit). From the bay to the sky to the Farallon Islands, here are a dozen places to go in San Francisco if you’re feeling adventurous.
1. Get in the bay and escape from Alcatraz! Sign up for the next triathlon here. There are also open water swim groups that regularly hop into the 50-something-degree water.
2. Kite surf alongside the Golden Gate Bridge...
3. ...or maybe just go for a more sensible bay kayaking adventure.
4. Jump for joy at the House of Air, where you can also kick butt in trampoline basketball and dodgeball.
5. Rent a bike, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, and coast your way down to Sausalito.
6. Go rock climbing at the Beaver Street Wall on the edge of Corona Heights Park. Or climb indoors at Mission Cliffs, Planet Granite, or Dogpatch Boulders.
7. Tour the USS Hornet in Alameda—and brave the ghosts. This is said to be one of the most haunted warships in the American Navy.
8. Head on up to Napa, then straight up into the air for an early-morning, champagne-toasting hot air balloon ride.
9. Throw yourself in a cage surrounded by great white sharks at the Farallon Islands... or maybe just opt for the whale watching package.
10. Fly over the city with Big Air Hang Gliding.
11. Race your friend down the Seward Street Slides. And, remember, the slicker the cardboard, the more adventurous you are!
12. For the most adventurous, though? Attempt to tackle all the epic hills and spectacular stairways of San Francisco.
